What do you pray for on the National Day of Prayer?

Citizens of our Nation were called upon yesterday to give thanks, in accordance with their own faiths and consciences, for our many freedoms and blessings, and I invite all people of faith to join me in asking for God's continued guidance, mercy, and protection.

Capt. Doug Lauter, Sgt. Tina Fruge and Chaplain Jay Valentine all visited New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church in Bossier City where they joined in to pray.

Pastor Joseph Ricard, Sr. sent a note to Chaplain Valentine thanking him for the opportunity to host at his church. “We thrive on coming together, praying, encouraging, and empowering our nation to apply positiveness in the world today to help our communities and build strength and character in our people,” said Pastor Ricard.

President Ronald Reagan amended Truman's 1952 law, designating the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer with the president in office issuing a new proclamation each year, encouraging Americans to pray that day.
