Deputy Matthew Bragg was honored on Tuesday by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for his life saving actions from May of this year. Deputy Bragg received the VFW’s Medal of Honor and a Certificate of Appreciation from Emmitt Smith and Max Arends.
On May 26th, 2023, Deputy Bragg performed life saving measures on BCPD Captain Todd Hylbert at a local restaurant during a “going away” party for another law enforcement officer. Due to Deputy Bragg’s actions, Captain Hylbert survived and is back on the job. Deputy Bragg is credited with performing actions that kept Captain Hylbert alive during the most critical time of the event.
Sheriff Whittington said, “Deputy Bragg definitely deserves the recognition that he has received due to his actions in this harrowing event. I am proud that he stepped up to help Captain Hylbert and this is a perfect example of his dedication whether he’s on or off duty.”
Congratulations, Deputy Bragg
