A man was arrested last night for asking people for money in front of the CVS in Haughton.

Tramell J. Lars, 29, of the 1100 block of Adner Road in Haughton, was arrested last night at the CVS pharmacy in Haughton. Deputies observed Lars asking people for money in front of the store and approached him. He had a variety of gold jewelry in his pockets and stated that his sister had given it to him. He went on to say that she lives out of town but had given him the jewelry that night.

Post Miranda, Lars admitted that he stole the jewelry from his grandmother and was trying to sell it. He had hoped that the money from the jewelry, combined with the money for begging, would be enough to purchase crack cocaine. The grandmother came to the scene, stated it was in fact her jewelry and the items were returned to her.

Lars was arrested and transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility. He is charged with theft, illegal possession of stolen things, and vagrancy. His bond is pending.
