North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy Announces Next Class

Posted: Jan 10, 2012 10:28 AM

The North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy announces the commencement of its next Peace Officers Standards Training class which will begin Feb. 17.

This will be the seventh POST Basic Academy for NLCJA, and the training is open to State law enforcement agencies in adjoining parishes and beyond. The academy features a running track, a 30-station firing range, tiered classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, a driving/shooting simulator, a five-story rappelling tower, and a full-service kitchen. The academy, hosted by the Bossier Sheriff's Department, will also feature something brand new for the upcoming class.

"I am also very pleased to offer dormitory rooms to use for the first time," said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen. "With our dorms conveniently located about five miles from the academy, this will be a big help for officers who live too far to drive back and forth each day."

The tuition for the academy is $800, which will cover all lesson plans and materials, .40 caliber and shotgun ammunition, PT uniforms, and lunch each class day. Dorm rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the cost will be $250 each for an officer staying in the dorm for the entire length of the academy. The total cost for an officer attending the academy and staying in the dorm will be $1,050 each.

All instructors at the academy are POST-certified and FBI/IDC-certified. Adjunct instructors have both experience and academic credentials that enhance their instructional efforts.

The academy is located in north Bossier Parish near Plain Dealing at 2891 Old Plain Dealing Road. NLCJA held its first POST Basic Academy graduation in May 2009.
