A Plain Dealing man was booked Monday when he tried to escape from the back of the deputy's vehicle by kicking out the passenger window after he was placed under arrest for drug possession.
Craigory C. King, 29, of the 800 block of Daniels St., was involved in a verbal argument with his live-in girlfriend about 3 a.m. Monday morning. When a Plain Dealing police officer and Bossier deputy arrived on scene to investigate a family trouble complaint, they could hear King yelling from outside the house, loud enough where it could be heard several houses down.
When the deputy made contact with King, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The deputy asked him if he had any weapons on him, and King replied, "No, but I do have some marijuana in my front right pocket of my pants." The deputy arrested King after he found a small baggie of marijuana in his pocket, handcuffed him and secured King in the backseat of his patrol unit. While the deputy was obtaining more information from the victim, King kicked out the passenger side window of the patrol unit from the inside of the car, causing approximately $650 in damage, and fled the area on foot. The deputy conducted a search of the immediate area, but could not find King. K-9 units with the Sheriff's Department joined the search for King, who was soon found hiding nearby in an abandoned car, still handcuffed.
King was charged with possession of marijuana, felony property damage, simple escape, theft and disturbing the peace (drunk). The Plain Dealing police officer transported King to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility for booking; his bond is pending.
